Modern Rock music format
Hard rock is a genre of rock music characterized by a dedicated role for the rhythm section, mainly bass and percussion instruments. Compositions of this genre are often built on riffs in 4/4 pieces.
Hard rock began in the 1960s, took shape in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and flourished in the early 1970s, with bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. Heavy metal immediately branched off from hard rock, giving rise to all "metal" music. Its second wave occurred in the 1980s (following the decline in popularity of early punk rock).
In relation to the rock of the 1960s and 1970s, the term "hard rock" is retrospective, its performers themselves in interviews and lyrics called their music simply "rock" or "rock and roll", without separating it from the previous rock -music. However, in subsequent years, many groups have already adopted the term. Sometimes "hard rock" is also used as a hyperonym for "heavy" genres such as heavy metal, grunge and the like.
